FirstLook: WillyDigger Custom Cylon Commander Bead
Sometimes we have to take a step back from technology and mass manufacturing and appreciate the quality and craftsmanship of true artisans. Like Fred of Wabi-Sabi Skulls who hand-crafts custom beads ranging from skulls, Punisher, Boba Fett, IronMan, Serenity ships to where ever your imagination can take you. These one of a kinda custom beads can be used on lanyards, Key chains or just used as plain old collectables.
The Cylon Commander
Fred was kind enough to take a custom order for a "Cylon Commander" from me. I have to admit I'm a Battlestar Galactic fan and was excited to hear he would be able to make it. He even suggested we use a GITD pellet within the eye slit to get that red glowing effect (GITD Pellet is much like the tritium used in firearm night sites). Since the Commander Cylon is gold in the TV show we went with Bronze as the main materiel.
Normally his turn around time is only a few days. However since we were going to use some trillium we had to wait on delivery of them from china. Needless to say I had it at my door in under two weeks.
The Build
Fred was kind enough to send us pictures during the process of creating our Cylon Commander. I will also note he has a vast choose of materials including Wood, Acrylic, Metal and Glow in the dark.
The Finished Product
I was very happy with the service and craftsmanship that Fred provided. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a custom bead. If you have something in mind shoot him an email. I'm already playing with ideas for the next one.
