Dropbox - Linux Installation

Installing Dropbox on my VMserver so that i can share wallpapers across multiple machines. I will be installing an experimental build 0.8.64 which supports selective sync, Since i do not want to sync all my data to my Ubuntu box just wallpapers for the time being. Dropbox ver 0.8.64 these wallpapers will be displayed with the build in screen saver.

Log into your Ubuntu box pull up a Terminal and change to your /home directory

We are going to use the wget command to get the Dropbox client

wget http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/dropbox-lnx.x86-0.8.64.tar.gz

Next we want to untar then move the folder to you home directory

tar -zxof dropbox.tar.gz
mv .dropbox-dist ~

Next we want to run dropboxd as a background process

~/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd

Dropbox should now be running and contacting the Dropbox servers for additional required data

You will need to put in your Dropbox account information, once that is done Dropbox will start an initial sync.

In order to use selective sync you will have to navigate to the advanced tab and put check marks next to the folders you want synced to this machine.
