I'm going to have to science the shit out of this
Imagine for a moment you were stranded alone on Mars with hardly any food, oxygen, water and a limited supply of space technology and duct tape, what would you need to do to survive?
"I'm going to have to science the shit out of this,"
Mark Watney’s response when confronted by yet more attempts by the Red Planet to kill him.
Novel
The Martian by Andy Weir, hands down ,by far my favorite space novel, It consisted of everything I wanted from Space, technology to some modern day Macgyver ingenuity. Written by Andy Weir, a computer programmer who imagined what would happen if things went wrong. “What if all things break?”
The story follows Mark Watney one of the first astronauts to walk on Mars, after a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead. Finding himself stranded and alone with no way to contact earth and even if he could find a way, his supplies would never last until a rescue team could reach him.
Chances are, he wouldn’t have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, dangerous environment, or just “human error” is much more likely to kill him first.
The Martian was also the winner of the 2015 Audi award for best science fiction
Hardcover / Audiable
Movie
I’ve been hearing whispers of a movie for some time and with most novels turned into movies, I'm a bit scared that it will not do it justice. After seeing the trailer, it renewed faith and anticipation of the movie.
Director Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator) casts Matt Damon as Mark Watney, who I think may be able to pull off the witty Macgyver type character.
The Martian will hit the theaters October 2nd

I managed to carve out some time over the weekend and I am glad I did. While Martian didn’t and honestly couldn’t include everything the book entailed, but it did an incredible job embodying what the book was. This will and is the best Astronaut / Space movie out by far. If you're a hacker or tinkerer. I urge you to check it out. There are also cut scenes being released on YouTube showing more science behind the hacks. Looking forward to the DVD release for more.
