iftt or If This Then That is a new web service that has just went into beta which let's you plug information from one service into another, Giving you the power to transfer data around your favorite web apps automatically. An example they give of this would be auto saving all your photos from Instagram to dropbox.

Terminology

  • Channels: define triggers and actions kinda like the building blocks of tasks (There are 35 available a list can be found here)

  • Tasks: are the functions i.e. if this then that
  • Recipes: are pre-built trigger, actions with functions all you have to do is plug-in your information (There are 1594 available a list can be found here here)

When I first hearing about this service it sounded pretty overwhelming but the developers have done a good job keeping it simple.

I got wind of this service over google+ from Adam Pash. If you don't know who he is, He is one of the writers over at Lifehacker. Check out his post he does a great job of braking this service down and gives a quick walk though. How to Supercharge all your favorite web apps with ifttt
