SUPCASE UB Grip

What I Found

Better grip, harder stand access

The thicker edges of the UB Grip give me more to hold onto when opening the Duo. That is the part I appreciate most. The outer screen protector has also been easy to forget about: I have not noticed a change in color or touch response in my use.

My two main frustrations are getting the recessed stand out and carrying the extra weight. I want to use the stand, but there is not enough room for me to get a finger underneath comfortably. A push-in, pop-out release would make it much more useful to me.

On my Dymo scale, the phone and case together came to 11.4 ounces. The practical buying check is the combined weight, because that is what you will hold. I also show the small amount of hinge overlap on the front display when the phone is open. It does not need to cover much to be noticeable.

SUPCASE provided this case for the hands-on review. The product link below is an affiliate link; purchases may earn me a commission at no extra cost to you. My question about fingerprints over the front camera remains something I am watching, not an established photo-quality problem.

What this video covers

  • How the thicker bumpers make opening the Duo easier.
  • The outer screen protector and difficult-to-reach stand.
  • The 11.4-ounce phone-and-case measurement and combined-weight buying tip.
  • Hinge overlap when open, MagSafe, the USB-C opening and button access.
  • The stand-release improvement I would like to see.

The short version

The grip is a real benefit if opening the bare Duo is awkward for you. Decide whether that benefit is worth the weight, hinge overlap and stand-access frustration. MagSafe worked well with the accessories I used, the USB-C cutout was fine, and the controls became comfortable after some adjustment. If the stand is a main reason to buy, pay particular attention to how easily you can release it.
