iPhone Duo Screen Care

What I Found

Clean gently; know when to stop

Before you rub harder at a mark on the Duo’s inner screen, pause. Start with the phone unplugged and powered off, use a suitable clean cloth, and follow Apple’s instructions. A mark that remains after the recommended cleaning steps is a reason to get it assessed rather than keep increasing pressure.

Apple’s current nano-texture guidance includes the Duo’s inner display. It lists a clean Apple Polishing Cloth, another microfiber cloth made for electronic displays, or a cotton-and-elastane blend. For infrequent cleaning of hard-to-remove smudges, Apple allows moistening the cloth with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Keep moisture out of openings and avoid bleach or hydrogen peroxide.

The cover layer is part of the display. Apple says not to remove it. iFixit’s teardown explains its flexible polymer construction and the specialized fixtures needed for replacement. Separate cover-layer service is useful, but it is not a home screen-protector swap.

This guide draws on published instructions and teardown findings; it does not show a physical cleaning or durability test. I use Eco-Fused cloths myself and find they work well for me. The Eco-Fused link below is an affiliate link: purchases may earn me a commission at no extra cost to you.

What this video covers

  • Choosing a suitable cloth and using Apple’s guidance for stubborn smudges.
  • Washing the cloth, rinsing thoroughly and letting it air-dry for at least 24 hours.
  • Why the flexible cover layer and reflected light deserve care.
  • Keeping sand and grit away from the hinge and clearing the inner screen before closing.
  • The difference between cover-layer service and an inner-display repair.

The short version

Keep a clean screen cloth near your charging spot, clean gently, and leave the cover layer in place. If a mark persists or the display behaves differently, explain what you see to Apple or an authorized provider and ask which component needs attention. The U.S. prices shown in the video were checked October 28, 2026; check the current estimate for your location, coverage and actual repair before relying on those figures.
