Quicktip: Getting Refund for Unused AppleCare
Whether you're an early adopter or just someone who likes to get that shiny new iPhone every year, this tip could save you some money.
We all know Applecare+ is a great investment for your new iPhone, giving you some piece of mind for 2 years. Although if you're like me and replace it every year. You're only making use of a year of that plan. I sure hope you're not throwing away that unused year when selling it to Gazelle or a friend. You could get that time refunded and possibly pay for half of your next AppleCare+ purchase.
Apple clearly states the following on their support page:
You may cancel this Plan at any time for any reason.
- if you cancel within thirty (30) days of your Plan’s purchase, or receipt of this Plan, whichever occurs later, you will receive a full refund less the value of any service provided under the Plan.
- If you cancel more than thirty (30) days after your receipt of this Plan, you will receive a pro rata refund of the original purchase price. The pro rata refund is based on the percentage of unexpired Plan Term from the Plan’s date of purchase, less (a) a cancellation fee of twenty-five ($25) dollars or ten percent (10%) of the pro-rata amount, whichever is less, and (b) the value of any service provided to you under the Plan.
It may be worth wild to pick up and call Applecare+ and reclaim some of that lost money. For an unused year after cancellation fees put it around $58.00, close half of your next plan.
Also keep in mind AppleCare+ is transferable with your device. If you don't want to get that refund, consider charging a little more and let your buyer know there is still AppleCare+ . Selling them some more peace of mind with their purchase.
