CHARGING SOUNDS — LIFEWITHTECH Version 3.0.0-rc.1 / November 3, 2026 — EARLY RELEASE https://lifewithtech.net/shortcuts/charging-ai/ For iOS 27 Shortcuts on iPhone. Use your own M4A audio or the optional Retro AI pack. Playback needs no AI service or API key. WHAT IS INCLUDED Seven shortcuts: Play Charging Cue, Test Charging Sounds, Charging Connected, Charging Disconnected, Charging at 50 Percent, Charging at 80 Percent, and Charging Fully Charged. The five native triggers are included, but iOS imports their automations OFF. You must enable them. Do not create extra triggers yourself. 1. PLACE THE LIBRARY Unzip the kit in Files. Move the entire Charging-Sound-Pack-Library folder into iCloud Drive > Shortcuts, so settings.json is at Shortcuts/Charging-Sound-Pack-Library/settings.json. Keep the folder structure. Choose Keep Downloaded where available and open settings.json once to ensure it is on the device. Back up existing custom sounds/settings before replacing anything. 2. PREPARE ALL SIX SOUND GROUPS Your own kit uses packs/my-sounds/v1. Retro AI uses packs/retro-ai-c/v1, with three clips per group. The browser builder requires at least one clip for EVERY moment. The empty starter has no audio: fill all six event folders before enabling all five triggers. Keep only playable M4A audio inside these folders; no notes, images, or nested folders. Renaming an extension does not convert audio. 3. IMPORT SEVEN SHORTCUTS Add Play Charging Cue.shortcut first, then Test Charging Sounds.shortcut, then all five trigger shortcuts. Keep these exact names because the triggers call the player by name. If Run Shortcut is unselected, choose Play Charging Cue once. Create a Charging Sounds folder INSIDE THE SHORTCUTS APP and move all seven there; this is separate from the iCloud files folder. 4. TEST AND ALLOW PERMISSIONS WHILE UNLOCKED Run Test Charging Sounds and test EACH of the six event groups below. Then, with power connected, manually run EACH of the five trigger shortcuts once. Allow file access and running the shared player when asked. These manual runs test the actions; they do not wait for the milestone threshold. Running Play Charging Cue without event input is not the tester. Check media volume and output. With iPhone Mirroring active, listen on the Mac too. The kit does not force volume. An excluded Focus intentionally skips the sound. For standalone locked use, review Allow Running When Locked for the involved shortcuts and complete permissions while unlocked first. 5. ENABLE FIVE AUTOMATIONS Open Shortcuts > Library > Automation and turn ON: - Charging Connected: When power Connects - Charging Disconnected: When power Disconnects - Charging at 50 Percent: Battery level Equals 50% - Charging at 80 Percent: Battery level Equals 80% - Charging Fully Charged: Battery level Equals 100% Alternatively open each shortcut > Edit, expand the trigger arrow and turn Automation on. Imported triggers start OFF. Keep only one enabled route per event. Replacing a shortcut can preserve an old renamed copy (for example Charging Connected 2); turn old copies OFF too. Leave unrelated automations alone. 6. HOW BATTERY ROUTING WORKS Connection reads the real battery level at plug-in: - Below 20%: 01-low-connection - 20% and above: 02-normal-connection Later, native battery-level triggers wake the corresponding shortcut: - Reaches 50%, with power connected: 03-fifty-percent - Reaches 80%, with power connected: 04-eighty-percent - Reaches 100%, with power connected: 05-full-charge Unplugging: 06-disconnected Every route calls the same Focus-aware player. The battery determines the group. If a group has several clips, only the phrase inside THAT group is chosen randomly. Plugging in at 80% plays a connection cue; it does not replay earlier milestones. Milestone routes skip when power is disconnected. Charge limits may prevent reaching later milestones. 7. CHECK REAL TRIGGER DELIVERY Unplug and reconnect: expect one disconnect cue and one connection cue. To verify milestones, let the battery drop below a threshold, then charge through it with an allowed Focus active. A manual run is not evidence that a physical battery crossing triggered it. Do not use Above 100%. Apple documents Charger triggers for wired and wireless charging. Lift the phone off a powered MagSafe charger and place it back to exercise the same connection route. This kit has not had a physical MagSafe test. FOCUS EXCLUSIONS settings.json contains excluded_focus_modes, defaulting to Sleep and Do Not Disturb. Use your phone's exact Focus names, including localized/custom names; matching ignores capitalization. The builder lets you edit the list. An empty list allows all modes. This guard skips NEW custom cues. It does not stop already-playing audio, mute Apple's own system sound, or queue skipped sounds. UPGRADING Keep your custom audio/settings and working player/tester. Import the five new triggers. Replace the old connection shortcut when prompted, disable any preserved old copies, and enable the five new routes. Confirm all six audio folders exist and contain audio. Do not overwrite your library with an empty starter. MULTIPLE PACKS Add another pack alongside the existing one, retaining the six event folder names, then set active_pack_id and active_release in settings.json. All triggers continue to use the shared player. Replace audio within a group to customize that moment. TEST STATUS Native boundary tests passed 0/1/19 -> low and 20/21/49/50/79/80/99/100 -> normal. Native audio-output checks matched low/normal group files. On the Duo, manual 50%, 80%, and 100% routes selected their matching files. The 80% route skipped while unplugged. The portable disconnect trigger imported as Disconnects and passed a user-confirmed physical cable test. Manual connection playback stopped with real Sleep and Do Not Disturb active, then Available Focus was restored. The upgraded connection/disconnect pair also passed: Thomas heard one of each with the old connection route off. Still pending: actual battery crossings at 50/80/100, standalone locked playback, complete clean-phone installation, and physical MagSafe. Published as an early release with these tests still pending. The website demo is an illustration. TROUBLESHOOTING Check the FIVE switches in Library > Automation, permissions, downloaded files, exact library path, all six audio folders, media volume/output, and Focus exclusions. Fix any manual-run error before testing the trigger. Duplicate cues mean checking for extra enabled old routes. If the phone never reaches a threshold because of its charge limit, that cue will not fire. REMOVAL Turn off/remove the five charging automations, then remove the seven shortcuts and iCloud library. Back up custom audio/settings first. Apple Charger trigger guide: https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/shortcuts/apde31e9638b/9.0/ios/26 Help: https://lifewithtech.net/contact/
